EVENT – Christmas Vintage Circus
EVENT - Christmas Vintage Circus
We were delighted to be asked by The Royal Naval Air Station, in Somerset, to provide a Christmas Vintage Circus theme for their Winter Gala. It was quite a task with the event spreading across many spaces in their Wardrooms, so we created a story to flow through each space.
Arriving at the Wardrooms foyer, guest passed two giant snow clad Christmas trees and entered the Circus Fairground through red velvet drapes. The foyer was dressed with a hint of ‘Circus Big Top’ ceiling drapes in red and gold, 3 colourful fair ground stalls and a life sized tiger. They were greeted by vintage Show People, Scallywags, Stilt Walker and a gorgeous Living Table serving glasses of champagne and G&T’s.
After the call for dinner, guests made their way to the Circus dining hall. The red and gold ceiling drapes continued above the tables which were dressed in crisp white linen. The spectacular tall table centrepieces were adorned with red and gold ostrich feathers, to further mimic the hint of ‘Circus Big Top’.
During a delicious carvery, our scallywags (magician and caricaturist) did rounds of the tables to keep everyone amused and surprised. The dining tables surrounded the central Circus Ring where The Ultimate Flambé Circus wowed their audience with dynamic and scary performances. These included a Contortionist, LED hoopist and Lolly pop aerialist all introduced by a sword swallowing Ring Master!
After dinner, the Fairground Stalls opened for guest to try their hand at The Coconut Shy, Sling Shot and Hoopla run by our vintage Show People offering shots of Baileys, Sourz, Tequila Rose or Spice Rum to the many, many lucky winners—What do you do with a drunken sailor?
Further entertainment was provided by a band and DJ in the bar area which was dressed with circus backdrops, life sized lion and baby elephant plus a chequered dance floor. The interconnecting hallways were a perfect place for our Hall of Funny Mirrors and clown flats.
Show people - Make their living from funfairs and fairgrounds. A close knit community who have passed the baton down through many generations of the same family.
Scallywags - Always try to make a few pennies from a crowd. Often behaving badly but in an amusingly mischievous rather than harmful way.
The Ultimate Flambé Circus - A travelling company of performers who strive to capture the attention of their audience. They enlist people with different skills and train animals to do many tricks. In that striving, they can go too far!
Client feedback: Victoria at The Events Architect took all the stress out of event planning. For one of the biggest events in the Officers Mess calendar it was simple and relaxed in terms of the planning. The decorations and entertainment were phenomenal, funny and daring and tied in perfectly with our theme and audience. Having already got the venue, Victoria was able to craft a vision that fit the space perfectly and was extremely adaptable to short notice requests (I was still adding requests in the last few hours!). It was a fantastic party and I’ve since had people ask me which company I used. I cant recommend The Events Architect enough!
